MAKE ME LAUGH:

I remember the night last March (I do believe it was in March 2010) when Elayne Boosler tweeted a reply to me from an airport. If memory serves me right, I asked her what her favorite joke was, of all the jokes she has ever written. Now I'm taking her to embed, with the most hilarious social-media rap of all time! Eminem and Jay-Z are already scrambling to stepwrite their next cyphers (whatever the heck that means!) - R.B. (AKA @TedInJest)

We're Talking Baseball!

OMG! This is hilarious. E.B. peppered this routine with so many clever baseball references that I'm sensing many in the crowd watched some of these shots soar clear over their heads! "And WAY OUT IN LEFTFIELD: Jose Canseco." Brilliant!

WTF! Is that Tommy Lasorda keeping a straight face at 0:29, while the crowd erupts into uproarious applause & laughter? Maybe he was laughing inside, while remaining an artful Dodger on the outside, not wanting to alienate Latino players? Hey, remember when he ruined Fernando Valenzuela's arm? Don't get me wrong, I'm a Lasorda fan, but 32 complete games in '86 and '87 for a Dodger team that didn't even come close to breaking .500 (73 and 89). That was pointless. He did the same thing to Orel Hershiser. I bet Tommy would argue with me about this. Come to think of it, I take it back — I'm not a fan of Lasorda. In fact, he's probably the primary reason we now have longer games, with many pitching changes. His blunders caused us to have to endure what we have today: the starting pitcher who only pitches 6 innings. From the sublime to the ridiculous, or vice versa. Fernando Valenzuela was "washed up" at 26 (Click Here to do the math!) I know Tommy does a lot of good work in the community and he's great with kids. He's a good man. I just wish he'd done the right thing with his starting pitchers. Coincidentally, it was Tony LaRussa (he's the honoree at this event E.B. is doing this routine at) who pioneered the "set in stone" middle-relief concept. He did this after Billy Martin ruined his young pitching staff from Oakland's 1980 season, by having them pitch complete games whenever possible (94 complete games from Langford, Norris, Keough, McCatty, and Kingman).

p.s. Is that Rickey Henderson in front of Tommy? Man, he got the joke. Look at him laughing so hard! Boy was Rickey an unusual ballplayer. Dude could hit home runs and steal 130 bases in one season. It's almost as if he was enhanced. Sans proof, I don't even go there. Saw him play with the Newark Bears when he was like 90 years old (Okay, maybe he was only 44 or 45?) Jose Canseco's brother, Ozzie, was on that team! LOL Sans proof, I don't even go there. One final note: do you all know that Lou Gehrig never hit 50 home runs in a single season, but Brady Anderson did? Sans proof, I don't even go there.

History Footnote: I don't blog. Writing these past few paragraphs has reminded me of the reason — it just irritates me to think about the world around me. There are too many people who are undeserving of their overblown fortune and fame, while the real heroes in this world have buildings collapse on them. On the baseball diamond, congratulations to Hank Aaron for really breaking Babe Ruth's record. Congratulations to Lou Brock, as well. It only seems appropriate that this little blog-entry of mine went in a tempestuous direction, as I was inspired by an E.B. routine. What I have always loved most about Elayne Boosler is her willingness to be tempestuous, to speak the truth to power, whether it was popular or not. This is nothing new to her — go to YouTube and watch some of her stand-up routines from her early career (Letterman and Carson), and you'll be surprised how controversial she has always been. I am always impressed with E.B.'s courage. Yesterday she had the courage to both follow me on Twitter and to send me a Direct Message. Robin Williams was the only other celebrity who had the courage to do those two things. - R.B. (AKA @TedInJest)
